  1.1      Food making in plant

All plant and animals need food to live. Animals cannot their won food. They obtain food from plants and animals. But plants make their food themselves.
Most plants have leaves. Leaves are green in colour due to the presence of a substance called chlorophyll. Plants need water, carbon dioxide, sunlight and chlorophyll to make food. Rots absorb water from the soil. The stem transports water to the leaves from root. The carbon dioxide is taken in the leaves through stomata from the air. The chlorophyll traps the sunlight for the energy to make food. In this way, the leaves get water from soil, carbon dioxide from air and the energy from the sun to make food.
The energy of the sunlight changes the water and the carbon dioxide into sugar in the leaves. This sugar is the food of plants prepared by themselves. The process of making food by the green eaves in the presence of sunlight is called photosynthesis.

The food prepared is taken to all parts of the plants by the veins and stem. Plants use a part of food to grow and to repair their damaged parts. The extra sugar is changed into starch. Starch is stored in different parts parts of the plants like root, stem, leaves flowers and fruits or seeds. Thus, the leaf is called the food factory of the plant.

The oxygen is given by the plant during photosynthesis. It goes into the air through stomata. Kin this way, plants help to make the air fresh and pure.
